RRRA, AVRO and SVRA Agree to a Federation

RRRA and AVRO agree to a federation

RRRA, AVRO and SVRA have agreed to join forces and form a brand new
Recovery Industry Federation whilst retaining their own individual autonomy.

The Federation of Vehicle Recovery Associations is essentially an
extension to the initiative which started in November 2009 and was
publicised in February 2010 that both RRRA and AVRO had agreed to work
together on relevant industry issues, has now been joined by the SVRA with
other organisations expressing interest.

The primary aims of the Federation is to bring to an end the conclusions
reached by Frank Worsford Senior Research Fellow at the University of
Westminster in his so-called independent review of the “Road Transport
Breakdown Services" published in May 2005.

  • That the industry is seen to have too much fragmentation involving too many small groups working on their own agendas to the detriment of the sector and not having an overall strategy.
  • That effective management of the industry has to come through greater consolidation of the trade associations and other voluntary bodies if it is to move forward in a more positive way.
  • And in the final analysis the industry has a responsibility to put its own house in order and raise the standard of professionalism via training, inspections, legislation to name a few. In order to do so it must put aside some of its short-term and parochial stances.
Few would argue with the conclusions reached. Responsibility for the current situation must be shared equally amongst existing organisations and despite the best efforts of the RIJLC progress in initiating the recommended changes until now remained unfulfilled. AVRO’s President Eilis Murray said that "the joint initiative between AVRO and RRRA had already proven to be extremely successful.
We’ve now held joint meetings with the Highways Authority, FMG and VOSA and these will be expanded in future to include members of the Federation".

We’re seeking to improve the services we provide our members; increasing members profitability whilst at the same time reduce operating costs. SVRA’s Chairman Alex Robb has stated that the forming of the Federation is the only way forward for the Industry and the SVRA fully support this initiative to further progress their member’s best interests for the future.

Peter Cosby RRRA’s Chairman fully endorses the opinions of the AVRO President and SVRA’s Chairman and makes the point that this action must be for the common good. The Federation will welcome other Vehicle Recovery Trade Associations wishing to apply to become a member.
